“He Will Score” – Eguavoen backs Boniface to end Super Eagles’ goal drought vs Libya

By Wale Mustapha

Interim Head Coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Augustine Eguavoen, is confident that Victor Boniface will break his goal drought and score for the national team in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against Libya on Friday.

Boniface, who plays for Bayer Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga, has yet to register a goal in his eight appearances for Nigeria. Despite his struggle in front of goal, the 23-year-old forward is expected to spearhead the Super Eagles’ attack as they take on the Mediterranean Knights in this crucial fixture.

Eguavoen, who has been overseeing the Super Eagles since the departure of José Peseiro, expressed his belief in Boniface’s ability to deliver for the team. The interim coach remains optimistic that Boniface, who has been a consistent part of the squad, will score his first international goal against Libya.

Victor Boniface has always been a part of this team, and he will continue to be a part of this team. Yes, he is not finding the back of the net, but I can assure you that if he starts tomorrow, he will score,” Eguavoen told reporters during a press conference in Uyo, where the team is preparing for the AFCON qualifier.

Eguavoen’s confidence comes as the Super Eagles look to regain their winning form and secure crucial points in the AFCON qualifiers. Boniface’s presence in the attack is expected to provide the spark needed to break Nigeria’s goal-scoring drought in their last few outings.

As Nigeria aims for another AFCON appearance in 2025, all eyes will be on Boniface to step up and deliver on the continental stage. Fans and experts alike will be hoping that this fixture against Libya is where the forward finally finds his rhythm and marks his first goal for the Super Eagles.
