Nigerian striker Henry Onyekuru showcased his scoring prowess with a brilliant brace on Thursday, propelling his Saudi Arabian club Al Faiha to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Al Shabab FC in a Saudi Professional League clash.

Onyekuru, who has been absent from Super Eagles’ selection since 2022, made a significant impact in the second half of the intense match held in Riyadh. He opened the scoring from the penalty spot just five minutes into the restart, before adding a stunning curling effort in the 74th minute, bringing his season’s goal tally to nine in 23 matches.

This wasn’t the first time Onyekuru demonstrated his ability to score twice in a league game, having achieved the feat previously against Damac last December and Al Hazm in February.

Despite the home team’s efforts to level the score with Abdulraouf Al Duqayl’s 86th-minute own goal and Mouhamadou Habibou Diallo’s late strike, Al Faiha secured the win with a decisive goal from Zaud Zaydan in added time.

The victory sees Al Faiha maintain their ninth position on the league table with 31 points from 23 matches.

Onyekuru, 26, has had a diverse career, playing for clubs such as Belgian side Eupen, Premier League giants Everton, as well as Anderlecht, Galatasaray, AS Monaco, Olympiacos, and Adana Demirspor.

Despite limited appearances for Nigeria since 2017, Onyekuru continues to make significant contributions on the field, showcasing his talent and versatility as a forward.
