Efe Ambrose, a key figure at Hibernian, has set an ambitious target for his club as they aim to cap off their impressive recent run in the Scottish Premiership with a coveted second place finish, eyeing a European qualification spot. Currently holding the fourth spot in the league table with 58 points, Hibernian remains within reach of their aspirations, trailing behind Rangers by just one point and sitting four points behind second-placed Aberdeen.
Following a remarkable eight-game unbeaten streak in the Premiership, including six wins and two draws, since their defeats to Hearts (1-0 in the FA Cup) and Celtic (1-0 in the league) in January, Ambrose remains optimistic about Hibernian’s prospects. As they prepare for an upcoming fixture against relegation-threatened Ross County, Ambrose exudes confidence in their capability to vie for the coveted second spot.
Expressing his determination, Ambrose stated to Edinburgh News, “We need to let them know we’re coming. Nobody is safe right now – maybe only Celtic. But for the rest, second is still open and anyone can be in that position.”
Reflecting on the season’s turning point, Ambrose acknowledged the impact of their Scottish Cup exit to arch-rivals Hearts after the winter break. This setback shifted the team’s focus towards securing a high league finish, acknowledging that a European qualification spot would be a significant accomplishment for the club.
He emphasized, “Being in Europe is like winning a trophy for us, that’s what the gaffer has said to us.” With their initial ambition of securing a top-six finish and winning a trophy reshaped, Hibernian now targets a strong league finish and a ticket to European competition, marking a significant milestone in their season ambitions.
