‘I always want to play for Nigeria not England’ – Ademola Lookman

Atalanta’s hot-red goal machine, Ademola Lookman has maintained that his choice to play for Nigeria rather than England was the best decision.
Born in Wandsworth, South West London, to Nigerian parents, Lookman was part of the England U-20 squad that won the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup before advancing to the U21 squad, featuring in 11 games and scored once.
The 25-year-old requested to switch his international allegiance to Nigeria after he had representing England at the youth level and FIFA finally approved his request to represent the Super Eagles On February 10, 2022.
The former Leicester City star made his Super Eagles debut against Ghana in the 2022 FIFA World Cup play-off in Accra and represented the country in the just-concluded Africa Cup of Nations.
In an interview with an Italian news platform, L’Eco di Bergamo, Lookman insisted that he is happy with the decision to represent the three-time African champions.
“I have no regrets, I took the right decision. This is my career,” he said.
“I always want to play for Nigeria and I’m proud of this. I was born in England, but my family is from Nigeria and I have a strong bond with both countries.”
Lookman has scored one goal in his six appearances for Nigeria and he currently has 12 goals and three assists in 20 Serie A matches making him the joint-second on the top scorer chart.
