“I b OON now!” – Oshoala, Boniface share playful banter after Tinubu’s 0K largesse

By Dayo Awoniyi

Nigerian football fans continue to revel in the Super Falcons’ historic 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, a triumph made even sweeter by the generous rewards announced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Each member of the victorious squad was awarded $100,000, a national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), and a three-bedroom apartment in recognition of their outstanding achievement at the 2024 WAFCON, where they defeated hosts Morocco 3–2 in a thrilling final.

The announcement sparked widespread celebration across the country and prompted a light-hearted social media exchange between Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala and Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface.

Boniface, who plays for German Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, reposted a photo of Oshoala in her WAFCON champions shirt and medal on his Instagram story, jokingly tagging the Bay FC striker:

“@asisat_oshoala Hwfa make I drop acct for small tinx 😁.”

Oshoala was quick to respond with wit, replying:

“Beeeeeggggg meee. Talk to me nice, I b OON now.”

Boniface responded with another story slide, teasing,

“Them for add I for the back. Make you turn Ooni.”

The banter added a humorous twist to what has been a moment of immense national pride for Nigerian football.

Under coach Justin Madugu, the Super Falcons went unbeaten throughout the 2024 tournament, conceding only three goals and showcasing a balanced mix of experience and youth.

Standout performances came from both seasoned veterans and emerging talents like Esther Okoronkwo and Jennifer Echegini.

Their success not only reaffirmed Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football but also inspired widespread praise and celebration, amplified by the administration’s unprecedented gesture of appreciation.
