“I can’t wait” – Werder Bremen’s Felix Agu eager for competitive Super Eagles debut

By Wale Mustapha

Werder Bremen defender Felix Agu says he is relishing the chance to make his competitive debut for Nigeria as the Super Eagles prepare for Saturday’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda.

Born in Germany to Nigerian parents, Agu represented Germany at youth level before committing his international future to Nigeria earlier this year.

The versatile full-back was part of the Super Eagles squad at the Unity Cup Invitational tournament in London, where he made his debut in Nigeria’s dramatic 5–4 final victory over Jamaica.

Now part of the squad camped in Uyo, the 24-year-old described the honour of representing the three-time African champions as something special.

“It’s a big honour to come here to represent the Super Eagles, to represent my home country. It’s just nothing but unusual, like it’s one of the biggest countries in Africa,” Agu told Football Fans Tribe.

“I can’t wait to get out there and play in front of home fans. I’m already feeling the connections, but I want to experience it playing for the team.”

Agu, who can operate on either flank of defence, will be looking to convince head coach Eric Chelle that he deserves a role in Nigeria’s must-win encounter at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
