‘I have nothing to prove to anybody’ – Nigeria goalkeeper Francis Uzoho

Francis Uzoho says he has nothing to prove as the first choice goalkeeper of the Nigeria senior men’s national team.
Nigeria’s goalkeeping has been under public criticism in recent times since the retirement of Vincent Enyeama, with the likes of Carl Ikeme, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, and Maduka Okoye having their stints for the West Africans.
“First of all, I don’t have to prove anything to anybody that I am the first-choice goalkeeper. This decision is a decision for the coach. He alone has the decision to select who plays.” Uzoho told Brila FM.
“Nigeria has good goalkeepers and young goalkeepers to be specific. It’s a good thing for us as a nation that we have a young crop of goalkeepers. We will be able to keep going and learning their skills to give Super Eagles the best.”
Uzoho will miss Nigeria’s next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers with Sierra Leone due to yellow card accumulation. Jose Peseiro led crew will have a tough decision to make as far as a replacement for Uzoho ahead of the match.
