I persuaded Eberechi Eze to represent Nigeria – Alex Iwobi

Everton midfield, Alex Iwobi has revealed, he persuaded Eberechi Eze to play for Nigeria before committing his future to England.
Eze was handed his first call up to the Three Lions squad by manager Gareth Southgate for the Euros 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia.
Iwobi said he had a conversation with Eze to play for Nigeria before he aligned with the England team but believes Chuba Akpom will get his time in the Super Eagles after having a prolific season in the English Championship.
“I spoke to Ebere Eze to try and come but then obviously he’s never had the opportunity to come but I wish him all the best with England as well,” Iwobi told Complete Sports.
“That’s up to the coach in his selection unfortunately it’s very difficult because of the strikers we have who are on form.
“I’m sure hopefully he will get a chance because he’s had a great season but it’s very difficult for the coach to pick strikers to come. He just has to be patience I’m sure he’ll get his chance.”
Eze had a terrific season at Crystal Palace where he netted ten goals and provided four assists.
