Nigerian striker Andy Okpe has opened up about his absence from Rivers United’s squad in the current Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, revealing that his desire to move abroad is being blocked by the club’s demands.

Okpe, who was a standout performer for the Port Harcourt-based side last season with double-digit goal contributions, has attracted interest from several foreign and African clubs.

However, the towering forward claims that Rivers United’s management is making it difficult for him to pursue these opportunities due to their high transfer demands.

Reports indicate that Rivers United are asking for a staggering two billion Naira before sanctioning Okpe’s departure.

“For those asking why I’m not playing for Rivers United this season, they have been making it difficult for me to travel abroad and make good money,” Okpe said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

He continued, “I told them already, I’m done playing for them. I worked hard to get to this level, they should accept the offer and let me go.”

Okpe’s statement has shed light on the ongoing contract standoff, and his future at Rivers United remains uncertain as he looks to secure a move abroad and further his career on the international stage.
