Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas hails Rivers Angels’ unstoppable spirit, resilience, discipline and excellence

Rivers State Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Rtd.), has praised the indomitable spirit and dedication of Rivers Angels Football Club, following their historic 10th President’s Federation Cup women’s title.
The trailblazing team clinched the milestone trophy after a thrilling 4-2 penalty shootout win over Nasarawa Amazons at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.
At a special reception hosted at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Port Harcourt, Vice Admiral Ibas lauded the players and officials for their resilience, discipline, and pursuit of excellence, emphasizing that their achievement sets a powerful example for the next generation of athletes across Rivers State and Nigeria.
“This is not just a celebration of victory, but a recognition of the values that define champions — resilience, commitment, and discipline,” said the Administrator.
“Rivers Angels have written their names in gold once again, and we are proud to honor their legacy.”
The ceremony also recognized Team Rivers athletes who represented the state at the National Sports Festival in Ogun State, as well as Rivers Hoppers for their exceptional showings and Rivers United for earning a spot in the 2025/2026 CAF Champions League.
Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Worika, reiterated the administration’s commitment to youth empowerment through sports, saying:
“This celebration is more than recognition — it’s inspiration. We want every young person to see that with passion, discipline, and hard work, dreams can be achieved.”
The landmark 10th cup win further cements Rivers Angels as one of the most decorated and successful women’s football teams in Nigerian history, showcasing the depth of talent and potential in Rivers State’s sporting community.
