By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
It was a memorable tournament and preparatory ground for second-tier Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Championship side, Moje Queens at the maiden Ifeanyi Chiejine Memorial Cup, where they won bronze medal.
The Kwara State-based side finished third behind runners up Imo Strikers and eventual champions, Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens, after the conclusion of the tournament last week in Asaba, Delta State capital.
The Head Coach of the team, Abejide Samuel was filled with joy and excitement after his side’s third-place finish, said: “Although we prepared late for the tournament, we thank God that we finished in the third position. We thank God for the organisers for a good job, especially the officiating.”
Moje Queens also won the fair play award which Abejide described as a reward for the disciplined nature of the Erin-Ile-based side.

“Anywhere somebody finds himself or herself, they have to be disciplined. The discipline of the team made us win the fair play prize of the tournament. My team is very disciplined,” he told www.nigeriafootball.ng.

“We have been to Germany twice making the team one of the best in the tournament. To get this award is a great achievement for the team.”

Moje finished second in Group A with two points after two games, playing a 2-2 draw with Delta Babes and a 0-0 draw with Anambra Angels before losing the semi-final match 9-8 on penalties to Imo Strikers after 1-1 draw in regulation time.
During last season’s NWFL Championship, the team finished third in Group B with 9 points behind promoted Heartland Queens (15 points), and Dannaz Ladies (12 points).
The next focus for the team is to gain promotion to top flight NWFL Premiership amidst the likes of DreamStar Ladies FC, Oasis FC, Honey Badgers FC, Dannaz Ladies, Kwara Ladies, Crystal Stars, Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens, Imo Strikers, Delta Babes, and Lakeside Queens.
