Plateau United defender, Ifeanyi Onyebuchi insists his side’s ambition to pick one of the playoff spots in the Nigeria Premier Football League season is intact despite Monday’s 3-2 defeat to Gombe United.
The Peace Boys were almost walking out of Pantami Stadium with a point against Gombe after both sides were tied on two goals in the pulsating. However, the Savannah Scorpions claimed the contest with a late goal from the spot.
A disappointed defender, who is the highest scoring defender in the ongoing season with four goals, said the team is still rich in quality and will make a significant impact in the second round of the season.
“Its a painful defeat because we were close to winning it or even get a point against Gombe, I feel disappointed how it ended,” Onyebuchi told NigeriaFootball.ng.
“Right now, we are fourth position in the table, I don’t think this defeat will cost us finishing in the top three.
“We still have nine games to play in the second round and five of them are home games, so we have a bigger chance and opportunity to make the top three.
“The Gombe game cannot weigh us down, I believe so much in our ability and what we can do and I’m sure we will do better in the second round,” he concluded.
