Igoh Ogbu: My Dream Is To Play in the Champions League With Slavia Prague

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu has revealed that his ultimate short-term ambition is to play in the UEFA Champions League with Slavia Prague, following his decision to extend his contract with the Czech giants.

The 25-year-old Nigerian international, who was recently linked with high-profile moves to Besiktas, Fenerbahce, and Lyon, says staying at Slavia Prague was a carefully considered decision.

“For me, extending my contract is a good decision and I believe it’s the best one because I understand the system and the philosophy here,” Ogbu told Footy Africa.

“I will also be able to play in the Champions League, which is something I’ve always wanted. That’s why I decided to stay for a while before making the next step. For me, it’s the right choice.”

Ogbu has been a standout performer for Slavia since joining and played a key role in their domestic and European campaigns. His ambition now is to help guide the club to the group stage of Europe’s elite competition.

The central defender recently made his senior debut for the Super Eagles, contributing to a 2–1 victory over Ghana in the Unity Cup. His rise to international football has been marked by resilience, discipline, and a deep connection to his Nigerian heritage.

Despite eligibility to represent other countries, Ogbu remained loyal to Nigeria — a decision he credits to the strong influence of his father.

His early performances for the national team have left a strong impression, suggesting he could become a mainstay in Nigeria’s defensive setup moving forward.
