Imo Strikers clinch 2023 Ifeanyi Chiejine Memorial Cup title

2022 finalist, Imo Striker Queens are champions after a 6-1 win over Giant Empress as the curtains fall on the second edition of the Ifeanyi Chiejine Memorial Cup in Asaba on Sunday.

Chidi Harmony who scored ten goals before the final match lightened up the encounter with the first three goals of the game within 45 minutes at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Delta State.

Ohuche Agnes pulled a goal back for Giant Empress which eventually turned out to be a consolation.

Chiamaka Damian restored Nelly Orisakwe’s side’s three-goal lead before two goals from Oscar Precious and Harmony completed the route.

The second-tier Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Championship side claimed the title after finishing the 2022 edition in second place behind Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens.

The Owerri-based outfit smiled home with two out of four awards as Harmony won the highest goal scorer award after scoring 14 goals in six games.

Her partner upfront, Oscar Precious won the Most Valuable Player prize while Orji Ijeoma of Giant Empress smiled home with the Goalkeeper of the tournament gong.

Always happy Bravehearts won the Fair Play award despite crashing out of the tournament at the group stage.

Earlier, Fortress Ladies won the third place match as Ufot Grace lone strike settled the contest.
