Intense battle for Wilfred Ndidi’s signature as free agency looms

By Wale Mustapha
The race to secure the signature of experienced Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is intensifying, with more clubs joining the fray this summer.
The Super Eagles’ vice-captain is set to become a free agent at the end of June, giving him the freedom to join any club of his choice.
In addition to Everton, who have long been interested in the former Genk player, three major French clubs—Marseille, AS Monaco, and Lyon—have also expressed their desire to sign the 27-year-old, according to Foot Mercato.
Marseille is keen to strengthen their squad this summer, with the midfield being a top priority.
The nine-time French champions are facing the potential departures of Jordan Veretout, Pape Gueye, and Geoffrey Kondogbia, while Jean Onana is set to return to his parent club Besiktas after his loan spell.
Consequently, the Olympians are eyeing Ndidi as a key target to bolster their midfield.
However, Marseille is not the only French club pursuing the Nigerian international. AS Monaco, who finished second in Ligue 1 last season, are also considering a move for Ndidi. His contractual situation with Leicester City has made him a hot commodity in the transfer market.
Leicester City is making significant efforts to retain Ndidi beyond this summer, but they are running out of time as his current contract is set to expire in just ten days. The Foxes are keen to keep hold of their prized asset as they prepare for their return to the Premier League.
As the deadline approaches, the competition for Ndidi’s signature is heating up, and it remains to be seen which club will secure the services of the talented midfielder.
