Inter Lagos interim coach Olusanjo Olutayo vows to fight for NPFL survival
Inter Lagos interim head coach Olusanjo Olutayo says his players must show they deserve to compete in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) as they attempt to recover from a difficult start to the season.
The Lagos-based club are bottom of the standings after collecting only five points from their opening eight matches. Olutayo was placed in temporary charge after Shakiru Giwa resigned following the team’s poor run of results.
Olutayo has called on the squad to respond with greater commitment and collective responsibility, as Inter Lagos look to improve their performances and move out of the relegation zone.
“To be honest, what they can expect from me is a team that is going to fight. A team that is going to put all their efforts towards ensuring that as far as performance and results, we are going to fight and do all we can to ensure that we win games,” he said.
The interim coach said the responsibility for changing the club’s fortunes would rest with the entire squad rather than individual players.
“You are NPFL players for a reason, and we have to show that we belong here. So if we come together as a team and we hold each other accountable and form a strong bond, I promise you, we are going to have a strong and successful season.”
Inter Lagos now face a crucial period as they seek to bring stability to their campaign. Olutayo’s immediate priorities will be to build resilience within the group, improve tactical discipline and ensure the players respond positively in their upcoming fixtures.
His appointment comes with the club in urgent need of points, and the new interim coach has made clear that effort and unity will be central to his approach.
The team’s position at the foot of the table has placed increased importance on their next matches, with Inter Lagos needing a sustained improvement in both results and performances to climb away from danger.
Olutayo’s message to the squad is that their status as NPFL players must be reflected on the pitch. He believes a stronger collective bond and greater accountability can help the club reverse its early-season form and produce a more successful campaign.
