“It was a difficult match” – Enugu Rangers’ captain reacts after US Zilimadjou clash

By Wale Mustapha

Captain of Enugu Rangers, Chinemerem Ugwueze, admitted that his team faced challenges against their Comoros counterpart, US Zilimadjou, in the second leg of their CAF Champions League first-round clash on Friday.

Despite a 1-1 draw at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, the Flying Antelopes advanced with a 2-1 aggregate score thanks to their first-leg victory.

In Friday’s match, a 77th-minute penalty by Kenechukwu Agu for Rangers was equalized by a glancing header from Youssouf Mohamed with just four minutes remaining.

Ugwueze acknowledged the quality of their opponents but conceded that Rangers could have performed better.

“It was a difficult match, but we held our ground to secure our place in the next round,” Ugwueze said.

“We are a young team still coming together, and the blending process will take some time. Having overcome this challenge from the Comoros champions, we now have more time to address our weaknesses going forward.

“We appreciate our supporters who stood by us, and we hope to make them proud in future matches.”

The Flying Antelopes will now turn their attention to the domestic league, beginning the new Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season with a match against Elkanemi Warriors next weekend at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
