‘It’s a start of our turn around’ – Bala Nikyu reacts to Nasarawa United’s first NPFL win
By Wale Mustapha
Technical Adviser of Nasarawa United, Bala Nikyu has assured the club fans that the victory over Kwara United on Saturday will be the turning point for the team in the ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL season.
Nasarawa United had to wait till Matchday Seven of the abridged league before recording their first win after they could only managed to get one point from the opening six.
The encounter on Saturday in Jos saw goals from King Osanga and Chinedu Ohanachom scored in both halves to give the Solid Miners a comfortable win and coach Nikyu opened up on his side’s slow start to the season.
“It is not our wish to push this far before we started getting first victory but its a good thing that the victory has finally come and we are hopeful it will continue like this for us,” Nikyu told NigeriaFootball.ng.
“Getting this win was encouraging and a morale booster for the boys to work more as you know if results are not coming questions will be asked as regards where the mistakes are coming from but winning covers a lot of things in football.
“There should have been more than two goals for us but football is a funny game, may be that’s what we are destined to get today, I see the two goals as a way forward ane we hope to work more harder to get more.”
Despite the victory, Nasarawa are still rock bottom in Group A standing and coach Nikyu has assured supporters and fans of the club that he will make sure Nasarawa United remain in the top-flight.
“I’m used to getting teams out of relegation, I’ve done that with about three teams in the NNL and in the Premier League,” he continued.
*We still have more matches to play and I’m confident that we will drop, I’m assuring the fans that we will survive and get even better.”
Nasarawa United will next be taking on Bendel Insurance on Wednesday in Benin.
