Head coach of Ibom Angels, Usen Ebuk has explained why his side has had a slow start to life in the Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership following top-pflight promotion in 2022.
The Uyo-based outfit are languishing at the bottom of the NWFL Premiership abridged group B standing with just three points from seven matches, having recorded their only win of the campaign against Adamawa Queens in Uyo.
Hopes of resusicating the woeful campaign of the Orange ladies were further dashed by Isigwe Chukwuamaka’s efforts in either half as Confluence Queens defeated Ibom 2-0 in at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja on Friday.
Reacting to his side’s latest setback, Ebuk blamed their situation to the unfriendly format of the league calender, but still harbour some iota of optimism about his side escaping relegation at the end of the season.
“It’s so pathetic that it’s an abridged league, assuming it is marathon league it would have been given us much time for the team to now come from behind or from the middle to get to the top of the league,” Ebuk told media.
“but abridged league is always very very dangerous, it’s a different ball game. So but from me if they can put this type of performance, that means the next game, we will take the game to the opponent.”
Ibom Angels will be at home against Adamawa Queens in their next NWFL Premiership game on Wednesday.
