Jaissle linked with shock Ivan Toney move in fresh Al Ahli controversy

Matthias Jaissle has been drawn into another controversy at Al Ahli after reports claimed the former manager wants to take striker Ivan Toney away from the Saudi club.

Speaking on the Dorينا غير programme on Tuesday, presenter Khaled Al Shenif referred to “a circulating report saying that Jaissle wants to sign Ivan Toney”. He did not clarify whether the possible move would be targeted for the next winter transfer window or planned for the end of the season.

Al Shenif described the prospect as “the mother of all disasters” for Al Ahli, particularly because Toney has been central to the club’s results since the start of the current campaign.

The England international has taken on an even greater role following the departure of several leading players at the end of last season, including Algeria forward Riyad Mahrez.

A former Al Shabab and Saudi Arabia player also reacted to the report, saying: “If this happens, it will be the fatal blow for everyone associated with Al Ahli.”

Toney has made a strong start to the season in front of goal, scoring 14 times and providing two assists in 14 appearances across all competitions.

The latest reports have added to the frustration among Al Ahli supporters over Jaissle, who led the team during its preparations for the current season before resigning to take charge of Newcastle.

The timing of that decision prompted questions, with Al Ahli preparing for a new campaign after winning the AFC Champions League Elite title for the second consecutive time.

Many supporters believe Jaissle’s departure disrupted the club’s plans. They have also criticised decisions he made before leaving, which they believe contributed to the exits of Mahrez and midfielder Franck Kessie.

Jaissle’s reported interest in Toney has therefore reignited anger towards the German coach, with the striker now viewed as a key part of Al Ahli’s team and one of the main reasons behind its early-season success.
