James Ajako: Akwa United defender laments irregular NPFL kick off calendar

Akwa United defender, James Ajako says that the career of players in the domestic leagues have suffered greatly following the incessant delays in the resumption of the Nigeria Professional Football League season.
The 2021/22 season had ended in July with Rivers United claiming the title but is yet to restart following myraid of crisis surrounding the sacking and installment of an interim baord as the league organisers.
And defender has decried the league hiatus, stressing that players can’t wait to get the season underway again after the last kick back in July 2022.
“Most countries in Africa have started their leagues and even went on break due to the World Cup,” Ajako told Brila FM.
“Not starting the league is really affecting us as players. We have been training for long and can’t wait for the season to start.”
The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season earlier scheduled to kick off on December 28, 2022, will now begin on January 8, 2023, while draw for the planned abridged league holds on December 28.
