Jennifer Echegini shines on return as PSG defeat Le Havre

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria attacking midfielder Jennifer Echegini marked her return from injury with an impressive display, registering an assist in Paris Saint-Germain Féminine’s 2–0 win over Le Havre AC in the French Premiere Ligue women.

The 24-year-old playmaker wasted no time announcing her comeback, threading a sublime through ball to Romee Leuchter in the 11th minute for the opener.

Her sharp vision and composure in midfield were reminiscent of her best form before being substituted in the 73rd minute as she continues to build full match fitness.

Leuchter doubled PSG’s advantage from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute to seal a comfortable victory for the Parisians.

Echegini’s return is a welcome boost for both PSG and the Super Falcons, who missed her creativity and flair during Nigeria’s 2026 WAFCON Qualifiers against Benin’s Amazons. Nigeria still managed to secure qualification with a 3–1 aggregate victory — winning 2–0 in Lomé and drawing 1–1 in Abeokuta — but her absence in midfield was noticeable.

Echegini, who has now provided two assists in six league appearances this season, was replaced by Congolese forward Merveille Kanjinga late in the game, while her Super Falcons teammate Rasheedat Ajibade remained an unused substitute after featuring heavily in the qualifiers.

With the result, PSG stay second in the Division 1 Féminine table on 15 points, three behind reigning champions Lyon.

The former league winners will look to maintain pressure at the top when they host Fleury on November 8, 2025.
