KV Kortrijk’s new signing Jonathan Afolabi has said the Belgian club’s former striker helped him to decide on joining up.
The 23-year-old’s contract was due to expire at the end of the 2024 season before his move to KV Kortrijk for an undisclosed fee on a contract until June 2026.
KV Kortrijk are currently bottom of the Belgian Pro League having won only two of 20 games so far this season. They are five points adrift of Eupen who are second from bottom.
Afolabi thanked the Bohs fans and revealed who inspired his move to join the Belgian side.
“It has been a pleasure and an honor to play for Bohs the last year and a half,” Afolabi told media.
“I’d like to thank the coaching staff, my teammates, and all the fans for making my time here very enjoyable. I’ll be moving on with a lot of good memories and moments in my career that have helped me improve.
“Lastly, I would like to wish the club all the best going forward. I will be supporting the lads from afar. Up the Bohs.
“I also spoke to Terem Moffi. He was positive about what it feels like to be here. He said nice things about the club and thought it was a nice step forward for me.”
The Irish footballer of Nigerian descent was born in Dublin to Nigerian parents who migrated to Ireland in the year 2000.
Afolabi’s form this year saw him named the SWI/SSE Airtricity Player of the Month for July and nominated for the PFA Ireland Player of the Year Award.
His 15 goals last year saw him finish level with Shelbourne’s Jack Moylan as the season’s joint-top scorer in the League of Ireland Premier Division, the highest football division in Ireland.
