Jose Peseiro explains reasons for staying at Super Eagles amid contract expiration

Head coach of Nigeria, Jose Peseiro has revealed the reasons for his stay at the national team after he agreed a pay cut with NFF to stay with the Super Eagles.

The Portuguese said he was pushed to stay with the Eagles by the players with the belief they can win the next AFCON in January 2023, urging the players to have the right mindset towards winning the next AFCON.

“The players pushed me to stay because they believe we can win the AFCON,” Peseiro was quoted by BSN Sports.

“We can win it. The players know it. They come with the same energy, the same belief, to fight for the Super Eagles.”

Peseiro came under huge criticisms following the blunders committed by goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho in the friendly games against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique.

The Super Eagles will trade tackles with AFCON host, Cote D’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea Bissau in group A of the tournament.
