Former international Joseph Dosu has urged the Nigeria national team to be clinical in front of goal when they face Brazil on Thursday.

Reflecting on their last meeting, where the Super Falcons narrowly lost 3-2 to the Samba Girls at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Dosu emphasized the need for precision and effectiveness in their upcoming match.

Dosu noted that both teams are familiar adversaries and advised head coach Randy Waldrum to bring his best strategies to secure a win for the Falcons.

The Atlanta ’96 gold medalist acknowledged the challenge posed by the Brazilians but expressed confidence that Nigeria can at least secure a draw.

“We thank God there were no injuries in the camp. They have played Brazil before, so both teams are not newcomers. I believe the coach knows how to play them and the ladies know how to play Brazil,” Dosu told Complete Sports.

“But most importantly, in the first game of this tournament, they need to do their best to pick a draw or to win. Playing against Brazil won’t be easy, and Brazil playing against Nigeria won’t be easy either.”

He also highlighted the potential and readiness of the young Falcons squad, encouraging them to seize every scoring opportunity.

“All I can say is that they should take their chances once they have them. We have the team, and the players are young and ready to go. We wish them the very best of luck.”

The Super Falcons, with their notable record as the most frequently appearing African women’s football team at the Olympics, are set to make their fifth appearance in Paris 2024, aiming to build on their historic legacy.
