Joy Omewa Celebrates Danish League Title with Fortuna Hjørring Amidst Multiple Accolades

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigerian forward Joy Omewa and her Danish club, Fortuna Hjørring, were officially crowned champions of the Danish Women’s League on Saturday following a goalless draw against FC Nordsjælland at the Nord Energi Arena.

Although the league title had been secured weeks earlier, the result capped off a dominant and rewarding season for both the club and the in-form striker.

Fortuna Hjørring completed a domestic double, having also lifted the Danish Women’s Cup. Omewa played a crucial role throughout the campaign, finishing the season with 22 goals in 23 matches—an achievement that earned her the league’s Top Scorer award.

In recognition of her standout performance, Omewa received a special prize that included a one-month use of a Mercedes-Benz vehicle, underlining the impact she made during the season.

The former Confluence Queens player will now prepare for UEFA Women’s Champions League football next season, fulfilling a dream for many players.

With the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) set to kick off next month, Omewa’s prolific form could earn her a national team call-up from Super Falcons coach Justine Madugu, as Nigeria looks to assemble a strong squad for the continental showpiece.
