Joy Omewa continues dazzling scoring form for Fortuna Hjorring with stake for Super Falcons call up

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigerian striker Joy Omewa continued her dazzling run of form in Denmark, netting a brace as Fortuna Hjørring crushed Kolding IF 6-1 in the Danish Women’s League.

The 22-year-old opened the scoring with composure, converting a cheeky Panenka from the penalty spot.

Later, she produced a breathtaking moment of brilliance, launching a 40-yard rocket that is already being hailed as an early contender for Goal of the Season.

With her double, Omewa has now scored seven league goals this season, finding the net in five consecutive matches.

Across all competitions, she boasts an outstanding record of 11 goals in 12 appearances, including four in the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers.

Despite her prolific numbers, Omewa remains a glaring absentee from Nigeria’s senior women’s national team setup.

Last season, no Nigerian female striker matched her output in Europe, yet she continues to be overlooked by the Super Falcons’ selectors.

The situation raises an uncomfortable question: Can Nigeria afford to ignore a striker this clinical ahead of the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup?

Omewa’s pace, instinct, and composure in front of goal make her a valuable asset for any top side.

Her current form suggests she is ready for the international stage — and her omission risks leaving untapped firepower on the sidelines.

Her story underscores a wider challenge in Nigerian women’s football: the need for merit-based selection that rewards consistent performance, not reputation alone.

For now, Joy Omewa’s goals continue to make the loudest case for her — and perhaps, it’s only a matter of time before the Super Falcons come calling.
