By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria forward Joy Omewa scored a goal in helping Danish side Fortuna Hjorring to qualify for the Women’s Cup semifinals.

Koge and Fortuna Hjorring played out a 2-2 draw in the quarter-final at the Capelli Sports Stadion, Koge, on Saturday.

Sarah Thygesen opened scoring for the host in the 42nd minute of play.

Omewa equalized for Fortuna Hjorring in the 71st minute to bolster her side’s resolve to progress into the last four placements.

Nine minutes later, Emily Holt’s penalty seemed to have won the match for Koge, but Maria Ficzay’s last-gasp goal in the additional minutes of the second half took the match into penalties.

Fortuna Hjorring scored all three four spot kicks while Koge converted one and missed two.

The travelers secured a 4-1 win on penalties and progressed to the semifinals.

They will face Aarhus in their first Danish Women’s Elitedivionen Championship match on March 15, 2025.

With six points ahead of Nordjaelland as table toppers, Fortuna Hjorring is in pole position to win the league title.
