Interim Nigeria head coach, Justin Madugu has explained the absence of defender, Ashleigh Plumptre from the team in recent matches.
Plumptre have not appeared for the Super Falcons after the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand despite her summer move to the Saudi Arabia League.
Madugu revealed that Ashleigh has been battling with injuries and she’s far from recovery.
“Ashleigh has been having a lot of injuries. She has been picking some knocks, and she has not fully recovered,” Madugu told media.
“That is just the truth about it and she needed some rest, and a break from the national team engagement so that she can recover fully but she is still part of the team.”
Madugu certified that Ashleigh is a key part of the Super Falcons team whenever she’s fully fit.
“When she fully recovers, certainly we know what Ashleigh can bring to bear, [and] she will be part of the team going forward.”
Nigeria will lock horns with Cape Verde in Abuja on Thursday, November 30.
