Kanu Nwankwo slams NFF for stalling Eguavoen appointment
By Saheed Afolabi
Nigeria international Kanu Nwankwo has demanded answers from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over the lingering approval of Augustine Eguavoen status as the national team head coach.
Eguavoen has been in charge of the Super Eagles technical crew on interim basis and have led the team to a four-match unbeaten run in the AFCON qualifiers.
Kanu believes if he’s the one calling the shots at NFF, he would have ratified the caretaker coach status as the substantial head coach of the Eagles without delay.
He said the NFF shouldn’t wait until the results doesn’t go the way of Ehiabor before making excuses for his sack.
“If I were the NFF president, I’d have given him the job by now,” Kanu was quoted by Brila FM.
“What are they waiting for? Are we waiting for him to lose two matches before we say he should go? This is overdue; they have to act.
“They brought someone in, he’s doing well, winning matches—what else are you looking for When coaches are doing well, you keep them.
“If they’re still looking for the ‘right one,’ when is that going to come. We don’t have time, qualifications here and there.”
The Super Eagles are unbeaten in four matches at the AFCON qualifiers and top group D standings with ten points from four matches.
The Eagles will resume hostilities in the AFCON qualifiers on Thursday, November 14 against Benin Republic at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny, Ivory Coast.
