Kelechi Nwakali: Nigerian midfielder joins Portuguese top side, GD Chaves

Talented Nigerian midfielder, Kelechi Nwakali has completed a summer move to top Portuguese side, GD Chaves from Spanish based side, Ponferradina ahead of new season.

Nwakali, who is the twin brother to Chidiebere Nwakali was the captain of victorious Nigeria U17 team that won the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup.

The 25-year-old joined Arsenal after the success at the global youth tournament from Diamond Football Academy based in Umuahia, Abia State.

He has had series of loan spells with several clubs from then on haven find it hard to nail down a first team football. He had played for Dutch clubs, MVV Maastricht, VVV Venlo, FC Porto and Spanish side, SD Huesca.

In 2019, Arsenal sold him to Huesca after three seasons without kicking a first team ball at the Emirates. He would then leave Huesca for a fellow Spanish side SD Ponferradina in the summer of 2022.

His return to the Primeira Liga will see him playing for Chaves for two seasons with an option to extend it for another season.

Nwakali is also expected to find his lost form remain fit to reclaim his status of one of the best young footballers around.
