Kun Khalifat FC Return to NPFL Action After Talks With League Board

Kun Khalifat FC have officially returned to the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) following what the club described as positive and constructive discussions with the League Management Board.
The Owerri-based side had earlier withdrawn from the league in protest over what it considered unfair treatment and disproportionate sanctions. However, after renewed dialogue with NPFL officials, the club confirmed it has been reinstated and will resume its league campaign with immediate effect.
Speaking on the development, Kun Khalifat FC chief executive officer Michael Amaefula expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the talks, noting that both parties are now focused on moving forward.
“We are happy to put our differences behind us and focus on the beautiful game,” Amaefula said. “We appreciate the League Management Board’s willingness to listen and address our concerns, and we look forward to a more collaborative and productive relationship going forward.”
Following their reinstatement, Kun Khalifat FC are set to return to action this weekend when they face Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan. The fixture is scheduled to take place at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
The club has called on its supporters in Owerri and beyond to turn out in large numbers to back the team, describing the encounter as a crucial moment in their NPFL campaign.
“This is a very important match for us, and we need the full support of our fans to get a positive result,” the club said in its statement.
Kun Khalifat FC also thanked supporters for their patience and loyalty during the recent uncertainty surrounding the club’s league status, while reaffirming their commitment to providing exciting football for fans in Owerri.
The management added that it is optimistic about a successful return to NPFL action and believes the passion and energy of supporters will play a key role in driving the team forward. Details regarding ticket sales and other match-day information are expected to be announced in due course.
The club concluded by expressing its eagerness to welcome fans back to the Dan Anyiam Stadium on Sunday as it begins a new chapter in its NPFL campaign.
