Kwara United thrash Lobi Stars, set sights on President Federation Cup revenge

By Dayo Awoniyi

Kwara United delivered a commanding performance on NPFL Matchday 35 encounter, dismantling Lobi Stars 4–0 at the Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl of the George Innih Stadium in Ilorin.

The Harmony Boys wasted no time asserting dominance, as Wasiu Alalade struck just six seconds into the game—mirroring his lightning-fast goal from two seasons ago against Remo Stars.

Kwara doubled their lead in the 12th minute when Junior Aimufua finished off a pinpoint cross from Ibrahim Yahaya.

Lobi Stars attempted to respond but were repeatedly denied by Kwara goalkeeper Suraju Ayeleso, who produced key saves to preserve a 2–0 lead at halftime.

The second half saw Kwara United sustain their intensity. Aimufua grabbed his second goal of the day in the 81st minute, before substitute Ismail Gatta capped off the rout with a composed finish in stoppage time.

Tactical substitutions by Coach Tunde Sanni, including the introduction of Abdullahi Ojifinni, Ismaila Gatta, and Akanni Akeem, added fresh attacking impetus to the team’s dominant display.

Post-match, Coach Sanni expressed satisfaction with the result, noting the pressure the team had been under in a match that showcased their attacking firepower and intent ahead of the upcoming President Federation Cup quarterfinal.

“This win brings relief, and we’ll carry this momentum into our Federation Cup quarterfinal clash with Akwa United next weekend in Enugu,” he said.

Junior Aimufua was named Cyteck Man of the Match for his clinical performance and brace.

Kwara United remain 12th on the NPFL table with three matches to go and next travel to Aba for a tough encounter against reigning champions Enyimba International.
