Ladan Bosso: Flying Eagles coach explains reason for dropping 15 players
By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
The head coach of Nigeria U-20 side, Isah Ladan Bosso has dropped 15 players from the invited 40 initially invited to the team camp in preparation for next year’s U-20 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Flying Eagles are currently preparing for the tournament which will serve as the Qualifiers for the next FIFA U-20 World Cup with friendly games in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria.
“After some days of training, I have dropped 15 players this morning. Among the 15 players, some of them came with injuries which we confirmed. They can’t come to the national team with injuries,” Bosso told Brila FM.
“It’s not accepted by me because the national team is not a rehabilitation centre. They should go and treat themselves and probably meet up with us by January when we open the camp again.”
Apart from injury concerns, some Flying Eagles players don’t have international passports.
Bosso added: “Those without passports. There is no way you can play in the national team without an international passport. I have given them two weeks to process their passports and come back.
“If they can get their passports within two weeks, they can return to the team. After two weeks without a passport, it means they can’t make the team.”
The Flying Eagles continued their impressive form in another warm-up game on Saturday turning back a Keffi-Selected team 7-0 at Fifa Goal Project Football Turf.
Earlier on Friday, the Nigeria U20 boys thumped Capital City FC 5-0 in another friendly match. The Flying Eagles are expected to resume training on Monday.
