Nigeria U20 men’s national team have continued their impressive form after thrashing Deluxe Football Academy 6-0 in their preparatory game ahead of 2023 AFCON tournament.
The game ended goalless at halftime but the head coach Ladan Bosso came up with his tactical masterclass which saw his side record six goals in 30 minutes in the second half.
The seven times African champions slugged it out with Deluxe at the FIFA Goal Project Pitch on Friday morning.
Captain, Ibrahim Yahaya opened scoring for the team two minutes after the break, before Haliru Seriki doubled the lead in the 50th minute.
Remo Stars midfielder Adams Olamilekan made it 3-0 three minutes before the hour mark and got his second of the game few minutes later. Emmanuel Ochegbu completed the rout with a late brace.
Speaking after the match, the Flying Eagles coach revealed how bringing in five players changed the tempo and pattern of play after a barren half.
“What we saw this morning is that, in the first half, we tried some players first, you can see that we started two professionals that joined the team. We brought in local players who are used to playing together and they immediately changed the pattern of play,” he told BSN.
“When there is a very good build up from the defense line, the finishing is going to be perfect. And that’s what gave us the result in the second half.”
The Flying Eagles will play friendly games against Zambia later next month. The double- header will be staged at the MKO Abiola Stadium on February 3 and 6.
Bosso’s side are drawn in group A with host team Egypt, Senegal and Mozambique, for the tournament which kicks off from 19 February to 11 March 2023.
