The Nigeria’s senior women’s national team received a jubilant and emotional welcome in Lagos on Wednesday as thousands of ecstatic fans celebrated their triumphant return following their historic victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Having been decorated with national honours (OON) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja on Monday, the 10-time African champions arrived in Lagos to a hero’s reception.

Excited supporters thronged the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, waving Nigerian flags, singing victory songs, and cheering as the team made their entrance.

Enthusiastic fans also lined the nearby streets, creating a festive atmosphere to mark the return of the continent’s most successful women’s national football team.

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to host the Super Falcons in a grand trophy parade, giving residents across the city a chance to celebrate with their national heroes.

The parade will feature stops at iconic landmarks in Lagos, allowing fans to interact with the team and share in the momentous achievement.

The celebration will culminate in an official reception with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, where the players and officials will be further honored for their outstanding performance and contribution to national pride.

This victory parade reinforces the Super Falcons’ status as national icons and underscores the unifying power of football in Nigeria.
