Nigerian striker Chidera Ejuke is confident that Sevilla can end their winless streak against Barcelona when the two sides meet this weekend.
Sevilla will travel to the Camp Nou on Sunday as club football resumes following the international break. The Andalusian side has struggled to overcome Barcelona in recent years, with their last victory at the Catalan club’s home coming over 14 years ago.
However, Ejuke believes this could be the moment for Sevilla to break that long-standing record.
“Yes, Barcelona is a great team with many top players,” Ejuke said in an interview with El Chiringuito TV. “But you know, we are Sevilla as well. We have the quality and the mentality to compete with anyone.”
The 26-year-old winger, who has scored once in eight La Liga appearances for the Rojiblancos this season, remains hopeful that Sevilla’s recent form could give them an edge.
Sevilla are unbeaten in their last three league matches, and Ejuke is optimistic that they can carry that momentum into the weekend’s clash.
“This is a new season, and every game is a new opportunity,” he added. “We are focused and ready for the challenge.”
Sevilla will need a strong performance to overcome Barcelona, who have been in solid form themselves this term. But Ejuke’s confidence and Sevilla’s unbeaten streak could make for an intriguing battle at the Camp Nou.
