Leicester City’s Ashleigh Plumptre wins Barclays Player of the Match against Liverpool

Nigeria defender, Ashleigh Plumptre has won the Player of the Match after her impressive form ensured Leicester City secure a 4-0 win against Liverpool in the English Women’s Super League (WSL) on Saturday.

Plumptre played a pivotal role in the defense which prevented Liverpool from scoring throughout the game and headed in Leicester’s third goal in the 48th minute of play from Courtney Nevin’s assist.

Josie Green opened the scoring for the host in the 15th minute while Carrie Jones doubled the lead six minutes later before Plumptre’s goal.

Missy Goodwin increased the lead to four in the additional minutes of the second half.

Nigeria centre back during Saturday’s game had 79% accurate pass, created a chance with 50% shot accuracy.

She made 60 touches, one blocked shot, seven passes into the final third, 20% accurate long balls, dispossessed twice, and won 50% of her tackles.

The goal was her first in the English topflight this season after 17 games as she prepares to feature at her first FIFA Women’s World Cup with the Super Falcons in Australia later this year.
