Liverpool Secures Hard-Fought Victory Against Burnley, Ndidi Shines in Leicester’s Win

Liverpool showcased resilience and determination on New Year’s Day, securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Burnley at Turf Moor, extending their unbeaten run to an impressive 13 games in the English Premier League. Despite facing the absence of key players Mohamed Salah and Philippe Coutinho, with Roberto Firmino starting on the bench, Jurgen Klopp’s men found the winning formula to maintain their fourth position, level on 44 points with third-placed Manchester United.

The first half saw Liverpool dominating proceedings, though they struggled to breach the solid Burnley defense, with only one of their seven attempts finding the target. The breakthrough finally came in the 61st minute when Sadio Mane clinically finished from inside the Burnley box after receiving a precise cross from the right.

Burnley, however, mounted a late comeback, equalizing through Berg Gudmundsson in the 87th minute. Yet, Liverpool had the final say as Ragnar Klavan nodded home from close range in the fourth minute of added time, securing a crucial three points.

In another Premier League clash at the King Power Stadium, Leicester City triumphed 3-0 against Huddersfield, with Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi playing a pivotal role throughout the 90 minutes. Kelechi Iheanacho remained on the bench for the entire game, while Ahmed Musa was not in the squad.

Riyad Mahrez initiated the scoring for the Foxes in the 53rd minute, set up by Marc Albrighton. Mahrez turned provider for his international teammate Islam Slimani, who doubled the lead on the hour mark. Albrighton sealed the victory with the third goal two minutes into stoppage time.

Elsewhere, Newcastle United eased relegation concerns with a 1-0 away victory against Stoke City, with Ayoze Perez netting the decisive goal 27 minutes from time.
