Lookman seals Atletico win after Yoro red card against Manchester United

Ademola Lookman scored five minutes after Manchester United defender Yoro was sent off as Atletico Madrid beat Manchester United 2–0 in the Champions League on 13 October 2026.

Pablo Barrios put Atletico ahead in the opening minute, but the match remained finely balanced until Lookman converted a rebound in the 79th minute. The Nigerian forward’s finish was the decisive contribution in a game where the second goal came late.

The sequence also highlights how a match can change after a substitution or dismissal. The score, time remaining and number of players on the pitch all affect the circumstances of live football betting. An assessment made before kick-off is based on different conditions from one made after a change in personnel or a red card, while the final score alone cannot show whether an earlier judgement properly reflected those developments.

Atletico’s lead remained vulnerable

A one-goal advantage gave Atletico control but did not put the result beyond Manchester United’s reach. The leading side had to balance the need to attack with the need to protect the space behind its defence.

That makes the period before the second goal different from the closing stages of a match that is already comfortably won. Lookman came into a contest in which the margin was still narrow, rather than one Atletico had controlled at 2–0 throughout.

Atletico’s match log records his introduction around the 70-minute mark, when he replaced Alex Baena. Morten Hjulmand also came on, while Jonathan David had entered earlier in the half. The attacking group that finished the match was therefore different from the one that started it.

Yoro was dismissed in the 74th minute following a VAR review. Five minutes later, Lookman scored. His substitution and Manchester United’s reduction to 10 players were separate events, and both altered the conditions in which the goal was scored.

Lookman finished a rebound

The goal followed a save by Senne Lammens from a Jonathan David shot. Lookman stayed involved in the move and converted the rebound after the initial effort had been stopped.

That detail is important when assessing his role. He did not take the first shot, but his positioning allowed him to benefit when the goalkeeper left the ball in play. Describing the finish as a rebound goal explains the connection between David’s attempt and Lookman’s contribution more clearly than simply calling it a late strike.

Opta reported that Lookman had recorded three goals and one assist in six Champions League appearances as a substitute. That gives the goal a wider context, although six appearances do not show how many minutes he played in each match. A rate based on appearances is not the same as one based on minutes, and scoreline, opposition and position would also affect the comparison.

Atletico had 11 attempts to Manchester United’s nine, with five and four on target respectively. Those figures add context but combine the periods before and after the substitutions and red card, so they do not show how evenly every phase of the match was contested.

What the performance shows

Lookman supplied the finish Atletico needed after entering from the bench, but this match alone cannot establish whether he should regularly start or whether the same impact would follow over a longer spell on the pitch.

A full assessment would track his minutes, starting positions and involvement in attacking moves across several games. Starting and appearing late involve different demands: a starter influences the opening shape, while a substitute has less time but enters with knowledge of the score and opposition.

The match also separates different betting questions. The full-time result, the next goal and a player scoring are distinct outcomes, while card-game settlement follows different rules. A match-result market depends on the final score; an outcome in 1xBet poker depends on the cards and rules of the particular variant. Quoted odds describe a payout relationship, not a guarantee.

For now, the clearest conclusion is limited to this game: Atletico’s early lead stayed narrow, Lookman came on before Yoro’s dismissal, and he completed a rebound to turn a close scoreline into a 2–0 victory.
