Manu Garba demands more from Golden Eaglets ahead of U17 Afcon in Algeria
By Saheed Afolabi
Former Nigeria U17 Women’s World Cup winner, Manu Garba have demanded more from the country’s U17 side after the team thrashed Galadima FC 3-1 in a friendly at FIFA Goal Project, MKO Abiola Stadium Abuja.
Nigeria will aim to end a 16-year continental title drought at this year’s youth showpiece in Algeria and they have been drawn against Morocco, South Africa and Zambia in Group B for their group stage campaign.
And the 57-year-old African U20 Championship and 2013 U17 World Cup winner tasked the players to be more clinical in front of goal, while stressing that they are on the right path.
“It was a good test game for the National U-17 team. What I love much in this team is their commitment and confidence of the players to play,” Garba told TotoriNews.
“But they must have to work on converting the chances created into more goals. The attackers must finish well to get the ball into the net.
“Above all, it is a very good test game for the National U-17 team. A team preparing for tournament like AFCON U-17 must play many friendly games. I think the team is on the right course.”
The CAF U17 AFCON is set to hold in Algeria from April 29 to May 19 2023 and the Golden Eaglets will play all their group stage matches in the city of Constantine.
