Maureen Madu hails Nigeria’s preparation for Women’s World Cup

Former assistant coach of the Nigeria senior women’s national team, Maureen Madu says she is pleased with the team’s preparation so far ahead of the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia.
Some section of fans had complained about the team’s lack of friendly games ahead of the World Cup, with the nine-time African champions’ 8-1 win over the Australian side, Lions FC.
Before the match, the West African giants had faced off with eight international games, including against six Women’s World Cup bound campaigners in the last 12 months.
And the former  Super Falcons player feels that the next thing is to switch to a tactical approach in training and deciding what the starting lineup would be when the showpiece gets underway.
“I think the team’s preparation is good because they played a lot of matches; one in Turkey, Mexico,” Madu told Brila FM.
“The next thing is to to organize the team and know the players that would start games followed by finalizing the tactical aspect of the team,” she concluded.
Randy Waldrum’s side will trade tackles with Olympic champions, Canada in its opening Group B game on Friday. The ever-present team at the FIFA Women’s World Cup will also face co-host Australia in its second group game in both side’s second meeting at the tournament.
The West African powerhouse in women’s football will for the first time meet the Republic of Ireland to wrap up its campaign in the group stage.
