Mercy Idoko inspires Racing Power to first win of new Liga BPI season

Nigeria forward Mercy Idoko has opened her goal account in Portuguese Women’s league on Sunday as she helped Racing Power recorded their first win of the season with 2-0 victory over Maritimo.
The former Nigerian youth international, who joined Racing Power in the summer of 2023 following brilliant exploits in the Israeli Women’s League with Beitar Jerusalem and was handed her second start of the season.
The former Confluence Queens forward, however not disappoint on her second full start for her new club as she gave her side the first lead with a brilliant finish in the 34th minute.
Maritimo came back stronger in the second half but Idoko and her teammates held on to their slim lead.
As the game was heading to full time, Racing Power put it beyond the reach of their hosts with the late second goal at the stroke of 90 minutes through Jenny Vetter.
The victory was the first for Racing Power who have lost their first three games to the new season but they still remain among the bottom three teams after four games.
Idoko and her teammates will be hoping to build on the important win to get better as the season progresses.
