Merit Offor promises good outing for Confluence Queens at NWFL Super 6

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Confluence Queens star Merit Offor is confident that the Lokoja-based side can put up a good performance at the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership Super Six after a 4-0 humiliation at Robo Queens on Wednesday.

A brace from Folashade Ijamilusi and a goal each by Rukayat Shobowale and Rukayat Oladiti condemned the Lokoja-based side to the first defeat in nine matches but the forward refused to criticize his teammates over the loss.

“The players tried their best but the goals didn’t come. Our opponents gave us a fight,” Merit told www.nigeriafootball.ng.

“We have played nine matches unbeaten and wanted to make it ten but it couldn’t come. We won’t relax but work towards giving our best at the Super Six.

“Sometimes we feel more relaxed playing away games but today’s result was just like that despite giving our best.”

Whyte Ogbonda’s side will now shift focus on the Super Six where they will trade tackles with the Bayelsa Queens, Delta Queens, Rivers Angels, Edo Queens, and FC Robo Queens and the forward has backed her side to will hope to re-enact their eight-match unbeaten run at the playoff tournament.

“There have been lots of improvements in the league this season. At least any team can go away to pick points including away wins. The league board should put more effort to improve the league,” she continued.

“We will perform well at the Super Six. Losing our last league game doesn’t mean we won’t do well at the Super Six.

“We are going to the Super Six to pick the ultimate prize. Nine matches unbeaten run wasn’t easy. Losing this game was not because we relaxed but because our opponents gave us a good fight.

“It’s not easy for a team to start the league playing two consecutive away matches. We lost our first two matches and draw at home. We just had to buckle up we need to get to the Super Six. I am proud of my team actually.”
