Michael Olise makes Premier League history with hat trick of assists against Leeds

Leeds welcomed a resurgent Crystal Palaxmce to Elland Road on Sunday and the hosts got an early reward for their pressure as Patrick Bamford fired Javi Gracia’s men ahead in the 21st minute.

Palace responded quickly in a bid to end their five-match winless run on the road and an unmarked Jeffery Schlupp saw his header clip the post from Michael Olise’s corner.

However, Palace grew into the game and Marc Guehi restored parity just before half-time, his first Premier League goal since November 21, 2022.

The second half turned out to be Michael Olise’s show as the 2021 Super Eagles invitee provided three assists for a total turnaround.

His 53rd-minute perfect cross from the right flank was headed in by Jordan Ayew. He then followed that with a run and through-ball that was turned home by Eberechi Eze and finally, on a quick break he chose correctly, picking out Odsonne Edouard on the left and he drilled home a fourth.

The scoring wasn’t over, however, as Jordan Ayew added a second of his own to make it five, slamming home from close range after Will Hughes’ shot deflected into his path.

The 21-year-old Olise became the youngest player in Premier League history to grab a hat trick of assists from open play in a game.

He is just the third player to provide 3+ assists in a Premier League game this season and is also the second player to provide three assists in the Premier League this season after Arsenal forward Leandro Trossard.

He has assisted 12 goals in the Premier League since the start of last season; the only player currently aged 21 or younger with more assists in the competition at this time is Bukayo Saka with 17.

Palace are now in 12th position, six points above the bottom three, while Leeds are two points and two places above the drop zone.
