Nigeria defender, Michelle Alozie scored two goals to help American side, Houston Dash to a 2-0 win against Gotham FC at the Red Bull Arena, Harrison, on Sunday.

The host, Gotham FC started the game on the front foot forcing Dash goalie, Jane Campbell to triple saves including two from Lynn Williams.

In the additional minutes of the second half,  Alozie’s right-footed shot from the centre of the box to the top right corner opened the scoring for the travelers from Nichelle Prince’s assist.

The host surged in search of the equaliser and hit the crossbar in the process.

In the 67th minute, Alozie’s right-footed shot from outside the box to the bottom right corner doubled the lead for the visitors with an assist by María Sánchez following a fast break.

Gotham FC had the chance to pull a goal back from the penalty spot but Jena Nighswonger missed the spot kick in the additional minutes of the second half.

Alozie saw 89 minutes of action before she was replaced by Ryan Gareis after scoring her third and fourth goal of the season for Dash, her best goal-scoring feat for the team since joining them in 2021.

She missed the previous 1-0 win over Uchenna Kanu’s Racing Louisville after her first career red card against the San Diego Wave.

Her compatriot, Ifeoma Onumonu replaced Sinead Farrelly in the 84th minute.

Houston Dash moved up the table to the seventh position with 26 points after 20 games while Gotham FC occupy the third position with 30 points.
