Mikel Obi’s Return Not Enough to Secure Victory for Tianjin Teda Against Shanghai SIPG

Super Eagles captain, Mikel Obi, resumed club duties, but Tianjin Teda suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Shanghai SIPG FC in the Chinese Super League on Saturday. Mikel, who recently featured for the Eagles in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia qualifiers against Cameroon, demonstrated his commitment on the field.
Shanghai SIPG FC took an early lead with Lei Wu finding the net in the 11th minute, followed by Hai Yu extending their advantage to 2-0 in the 15th minute. Despite the setback, Tianjin Teda displayed resilience, with Ximing Pan pulling a goal back in the 67th minute, narrowing the scoreline to 2-1.
However, Shanghai SIPG FC cemented their victory in the 80th minute, as Elkeson secured the points with a goal, concluding the match at 3-1.
Following this result, Tianjin Teda currently occupies the 15th position in the 16-team league, amassing 16 points. Mikel Obi, who has featured in six league games this season, contributed with a notable goal for Tianjin Teda.
