Mourinho dedicates Real Madrid’s El Clasico win to ‘singing’ Barcelona fans

Jose Mourinho has jokingly dedicated Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Barcelona at Camp Nou to the home supporters, saying their celebrations outside the team hotel stopped him from sleeping.

Real Madrid secured a valuable win in one of club football’s biggest matches last night, with Mourinho delivering a sarcastic message to Barcelona fans after the final whistle.

Speaking to Real Madrid’s official channel, the Portuguese manager said: “I dedicate this victory to the Barcelona fans who prevented me from sleeping today at the hotel.”

Mourinho said supporters of Real Madrid’s traditional rivals had gathered outside the hotel where the visiting squad was staying during their time in Barcelona.

“They didn’t stop singing all day,” he added.

The 63-year-old then said, without changing his expression: “I couldn’t have my nap, but I beat their team. A big hug to them.”

The victory came in the 265th meeting between Barcelona and Real Madrid. Kylian Mbappe scored both of the visitors’ goals, opening the scoring in the 41st minute before striking again in the 87th minute to settle the match late on.

Barcelona’s only goal was scored by Brazil forward Raphinha in the 61st minute. His equaliser briefly brought the hosts level, but Mbappe’s second goal secured the points for Real Madrid.

Eduardo Camavinga also played a decisive part in the result despite coming on as a substitute in the 80th minute for Bernardo Silva.

The France midfielder produced an outstanding assist for the winning goal, driving through the centre of the Barcelona defence and going past Pau Cubarsi before setting up Mbappe.

The defeat ended Barcelona’s run of nine consecutive victories in the opening nine rounds of La Liga. It also allowed Real Madrid to reduce the gap between the two sides at the top of the table.

Barcelona remain leaders despite losing the Clasico, but Real Madrid are now only three points behind them. The result meant the gap did not grow to nine points.

Barcelona are listed to play in La Liga on 31 October 2026, while Deportivo Alaves and Racing Santander are listed for a La Liga fixture on 01 November 2026. Real Madrid are also listed in the La Liga schedule.
