Promising Nigeria striker, Muhammad Tijani has opened up on how Manchester United and England legend, Wayne Rooney influenced his move to England.
The 23 year old striker teamed up with Championship side, Plymouth Argyle on loan from Slavia Prague for the 2024/2025 season.
Tijani said Rooney was the sole reason he joined Plymouth due to his achievements in the game.
He added, he was stunned when he received a call from Rooney which sealed his move to England.
“Actually, he [Wayne Rooney] did. He is a football legend not only in England but in the whole world. He plays like a striker also [like me]. [So] I think it is a good move for me, that’s why I took the deal,” Tijani was quoted by Ojbsports.
“He really influenced the move, because when he called I was like ‘wow! Look who is calling, it’s Wayne Rooney.’ I was shocked. I had to ask my agent, ‘are you sure it’s him?’ He said, ‘yes, it’s him, of course, just take the call,’ and then we spoke, and it was very good.”
The former Nigeria U20 forward joined Slavia Prague last season and scored four goals in 19 matches.
