Former Nigeria U20 forward Muhammad Tijani, has opened up about his decision to play under Wayne Rooney, his new Plymouth manager.

Tijani who recently completed a move from Slavia Prague to English Championship side Plymouth Argyle, handled by former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney, on a season-long loan with a buyout option.

After avoiding relegation last season, the club appointed Rooney in hopes of a stronger performance this term.

“Actually, he [Wayne Rooney] did. He is a football legend not only in England but in the whole world,” Tijani told OJB Sports.

“He plays like a striker also [like me]. [So] I think it is a good move for me, that’s why I took the deal. He really influenced the move, because when he called I was like ‘Wow! Look who is calling, it’s Wayne Rooney.’

“I was shocked. I had to ask my agent, ‘Are you sure it’s him?’ He said, ‘Yes, it’s him, of course, just take the call,’ and then we spoke, and it was very good.”

Tijani becomes the next Nigerian to play for Plymouth, following in the footsteps of former Super Eagles striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni.
